Vocabulary Words
Each week in the Pflaum

this will stand. When we end a prayer with Amen, we
say God will stand. We believe in God to whom we pray.
- Cathedral: A catherdral is a church which has a bishop.
St. John Lateran in Rome is the cathedral of the bishop of Rome,
Pope John Paul II.
- Christ:Christ is not Jesus' last name. It is a title for
Jesus that means "Anointed one." Israel anointed its kings. God
anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit.
- Commandment: A commandment is a rule or a law that tells
people how to act. God gave the people of Israel ten great
commandments. The Commandments taught Israel how to live as
God's own people.
- Confirmation: Confirmation is a sacrament that helps us share
more fully in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and in membership in
the church.
- Eucharist: When we go to Mass and receive the body and blood of
Jesus we are celebrating the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
- Faith:Faith means to beleive in and to love someone or something.
- Fasting: When someone fasts, he or she goes without eating for
a certain period of time, or eats less than usual during that time.
- Gospel:Gospel means good news. Jesus is God's good news to
Christians. Gospel is also the name for the first four books of
the New Testament, the books that tell Jesus' story.
- Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity.
Jesus sent the Spirit to be with us when he returned to God.

entry into Jerusalem, his last supper with his friends, his suffering and
death on the cross, and his resurrection from the dead.
- Honor: Honor means to give respect, gratitude, and obedience.
we honor people when we show respect for them in our words and actions.
- Reconciliation: Reconciliation means to come together again.
It is a sacrament that celebrates God's gift of forgiveness and
brings us together with God again.
- Sin: Sin is freely choosing to what we know is wrong.
- Soul: Soul is the name for the spirit in each of us. Our spirit
is the life within us. Jesus promises all who believe in him will
live forever with God. Our bodies die, but our spirits don't die.
When God raises our bodies up, we will be with God in body and spirit.
- Trinity: Trinity means that although there is only one God, there
are three persons in God-- the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
